On June 2, 2025, flydubai confirmed the restart of nonstop flights between Dubai and Damascus, becoming the first UAE carrier to serve Syria since 2012. On June 1, the first flight arrived at Damascus International Airport, restoring an important air route that had been on hold for more than a decade. The daily flights are set to enhance connections between the two nations amid ongoing changes in the region.

Officials from both the UAE and Syria, including delegates from the UAE Embassy and the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, were present at the relaunch event. The officials’ presence emphasized the route’s political and logistical value, suspended for years amid ongoing conflict and international limitations. The revised schedule intends to maintain consistent and trustworthy air travel links connecting Syria with the Gulf.

Damascus offers travelers the chance to visit notable landmarks including the Umayyad Mosque, celebrated for its early Islamic architecture, the lively Al-Hamidiyah Souq filled with traditional goods, and the Azm Palace, a historic site reflecting the Ottoman era in Syria. For those interested in exploring the area's ancient heritage, these landmarks offer a profound cultural and historical journey.

Beyond the capital, a variety of notable locations have become simpler to access. The historic ruins of Palmyra, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reveal Syria’s Roman heritage, while the remarkably preserved Roman theatre in Bosra draws history lovers. On the Mediterranean coast, Latakia presents sandy beaches alongside historic Crusader landmarks, including Saladin Castle, attracting those interested in both nature and heritage.

The restoration of direct flights between Dubai and Damascus marks an important step in improving regional travel options. For many with family ties or professional interests in Syria, this development reduces travel complexity and time. While the region still faces challenges, the launch of daily flights signals a hopeful step toward improved stability and better connections, providing real advantages for travelers making their way through this changing environment.
