Famous Spanish resort disappoints visitors due to crowds of tourists
When travellers imagine a trip to Spain, a visit to Barcelona comes to mind. It is for this reason that tourists believe that the city has lost its charm and has become uncomfortable for leisurely walks and a pleasant stay.
Paradoxically, the crowds of tourists disappoint them, but tens of millions of people continue to visit Barcelona. 27 million guests come here every year, which is about 16 times more than the permanent population of Barcelona, the Mirror writes.
Colourful cuisine, picturesque beaches, and unique architecture attract people from all over the world like a magnet. Barcelona simply cannot cope with this influx.
Tourists are crowded in queues, restaurants are overcharging, and the streets are getting dirtier. Not only do city dwellers dislike this kind of holiday, but also visitors who hope for a quiet holiday but book their trip too late.
As the number of travellers increases, so does the crime rate. In addition, tourist shops, fast food outlets, excursions and other things that were not typical of Barcelona before have "occupied" the most popular areas of the city.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy the silence and be alone, so some travellers are calling for discovering other interesting cities in Spain.
