Christmas 2025 is expected to be one of the busiest travel periods in Europe, with easyJet planning to operate more than 24,600 flights across its network. The airline expects to carry around 3.5 million passengers between late December and early January, underlining how demand for seasonal travel continues to grow. Peak days are forecast for 26 December and 2 January, when daily traffic across European airports will be at its highest.

For passengers departing the UK, the expanded schedule translates into denser flight availability during one of the busiest travel windows of the year. At the height of the season, close to 1,000 flights a day will operate, giving passengers a wider choice of departure times during an already crowded travel period. With services operating from 22 UK airports, travellers heading abroad or moving within the UK are less dependent on a single airport or route.

Destination trends this winter reflect a clear split in travel priorities. Major European cities such as Paris and Milan remain popular for short festive breaks, while Geneva continues to attract winter sports travellers at the start of the ski season. Belfast stands out domestically, driven by holiday visits to friends and family rather than leisure travel alone.

Further south, winter sun travel concentrates around a small group of destinations. Tenerife and Lanzarote account for a large share of seasonal traffic, while Marrakech and Hurghada attract passengers planning longer holiday stays outside Europe. At the opposite end of the range, Lapland has added capacity this winter, giving families more options for trips focused on snow-based activities and festive experiences.

In practice, the expanded Christmas schedule is less about record numbers and more about how easily people can fit travel around holiday plans. Higher flight volumes generally mean greater flexibility, more backup options when plans change, and improved access to both mainstream and niche destinations during peak weeks. As holiday travel patterns become increasingly varied, the winter 2025 network reflects a shift away from one-size-fits-all trips towards more personalised seasonal journeys.
