Antarctica suddenly turned maroon: fantastic photos
The sky over Antarctica turned maroon (maroon) the day before. Incredible footage showed this rare phenomenon.
This was reported on Facebook by Serhiy Glotov, a member of the Ukrainian Antarctic expedition at the Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica.
It is noted that this is not the first time such a color anomaly has occurred. For example, in July 2022, the sky over Antarctica turned pink. At the time, scientists explained this phenomenon by the activity of the Tonga submarine volcano located in the Pacific Ocean.
"Stratospheric aerosols can circulate the globe for months after a volcanic eruption, scattering and distorting light as the sun dips or rises above the horizon, creating a glow in the sky with shades of pink, blue, magenta, and purple," they noted.
