airBaltic Adds Zurich and Chisinau to Vilnius Network for Summer 2026
airBaltic has confirmed an expansion of its Vilnius route network for the summer 2026 season, adding new direct flights to Zurich and Chisinau. The move strengthens the airline’s position in the Lithuanian market and widens international links from the capital. Both routes will operate multiple times per week, adding capacity and choice on services connecting Lithuania with Europe.
Planned launch dates and frequencies:
- Vilnius – Chisinau: the route is expected to open in early April 2026, with two flights per week.
- Vilnius – Zurich: three weekly flights are planned from early May 2026, adding a direct service to Switzerland’s largest city.
According to airBaltic, both routes are timed for the summer season and target a mix of leisure and business demand.
“Lithuania remains one of the most important markets for airBaltic, and by expanding our operations in Vilnius, we are further strengthening our presence in the region. New routes to Zurich and Chisinau, along with enhanced transfer options via Riga, will provide Lithuanian travelers with more choice, flexibility, and convenience. With a planned seat capacity increase of 21% in Lithuania next summer – alongside growth across all Baltic capitals – we are improving connectivity across Europe and supporting the long-term development of air travel in Lithuania."
The Vilnius expansion follows the previously announced Kaunas–Riga route, which will operate up to five times per week. This service allows passengers departing from Kaunas to connect onward via airBaltic’s Riga hub to more than 70 destinations. airBaltic will also become the first network carrier operating from Kaunas Airport, using its Airbus A220-300 aircraft across the route.
The new routes give passengers access to two very different travel profiles. Zurich serves as an entry point to Switzerland’s financial centre, Alpine regions and one of Europe’s most efficient rail networks. Chisinau strengthens links with Moldova, opening access to its historic centre, food and wine culture, and nearby rural areas, while also improving regional connectivity between the Baltic States and Eastern Europe.
The summer 2026 schedule points to a more practical approach to travel planning. Direct routes from Vilnius are paired with transfer options via Riga, allowing passengers to reach more destinations without relying on larger, congested hubs. For travellers in Lithuania, this creates a clearer network structure, shorter connections, and a broader range of routes without added complexity.
