Air Canada offers real-time baggage tracking for domestic flights
Air Canada passengers traveling on domestic flights can now track their luggage in real time as it moves with them during their journey. This can be done on the airline's mobile app.
The company's management hopes that the new baggage tracking feature in the mobile application will give confidence and improve the customer experience. This was reported by the online publication Simple Flying.
How will the mobile app work?
The app will process data from baggage tags at each scan. This will allow passengers to keep track of their luggage at key points during the flight. You will see it from check-in to your destination.
Passengers will also receive information on where they should pick up their bags upon arrival, such as the corresponding baggage carousel number. This is very convenient, because after the flight, you won't need to spend a long time looking for your luggage, running around the airport.
Who can use this feature?
Initially, only passengers traveling within Canada will be able to use the new feature. Next year, it will be available on flights to the United States. Later, it is planned to be introduced for international destinations.
Importance of the service for customers
The feature can also be used to track mobility aids, so passengers can now confirm that they are securely loaded before the plane departs.
Tom Stevens, Air Canada's vice president of customer service and operational strategies, explained why this is important for the airline's passengers.
"At Air Canada, we know that in addition to a safe and comfortable travel experience, the prompt delivery of baggage and mobility aids is a top priority for our customers. We've already achieved a high level of reliability, but to further enhance our service, we've introduced a new tracking feature on the Air Canada mobile app to provide customers with real-time information," says Stevens.
Relaxing travel even when things don't go as planned
The launch of Apple AirTags and similar alternatives will make it easier for passengers to track their own luggage. It is necessary for other airlines to implement the same application. This will help carriers avoid shameful stories when luggage ended up on other continents, far from their owners, and will also increase the level of trust among customers. And passengers, in turn, will enjoy a comfortable flight without unnecessary worries.
