Overnight, southwestern Japan was struck by Typhoon Shanshan, unleashing strong winds and heavy rains that forced hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate from the danger zone. Meteorologists predict that Shanshan may become one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded in the region. As a result, major companies like Toyota have halted operations at their factories, and airlines and rail operators have canceled several services.

Typhoon Shanshan is moving towards the main southwestern island of Kyushu, with wind speeds reaching up to 157 mph (approximately 250 km/h). The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an emergency warning, noting that the typhoon could cause flooding, landslides, and winds strong enough to destroy some buildings. In Gamagori, rescue personnel carried a survivor from under a damaged house following a landslide triggered by the heavy rain from the typhoon.

Future Path and Consequences

Forecasts indicate that Typhoon Shanshan is expected to reach Kyushu in the coming days and then move towards the central and eastern regions of Japan, including Tokyo, by the weekend. This event marks another severe weather system to impact Japan, following Typhoon Ampil last weekend, which also led to blackouts and evacuations.

In such extreme weather conditions, it is crucial to stay updated with the latest notifications and any changes in transportation schedules. Travelers are advised to monitor news updates and consider postponing trips to areas at risk. Having a safe shelter and understanding the risks associated with natural disasters will help minimize the impact and ensure personal safety.
