Turin and Benidorm Lead the Future of Smart and Sustainable Tourism

Turin, Italy, and Benidorm, Spain, have been acknowledged as the two thousand twenty-five European Capital and Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism. These distinguished titles, awarded at the European Jury meeting in Brussels on the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh of November two thousand twenty-four, highlight innovative tourism practices. The awards celebrate these cities’ efforts to modernize the tourism experience while focusing on eco-consciousness and inclusivity, aligning with international efforts to improve travel opportunities and protect cultural heritage.

An overall thirty-seven destinations from sixteen countries contended for these honors, with fourteen cities reaching the finals. Turin stood out for its advancements in digitalization, cultural preservation, and inclusivity, alongside ambitious plans for the coming year. Benidorm earned commendation for its leadership in sustainable tourism, establishing an example of how smaller destinations can effectively implement eco-friendly policies that enhance the traveler experience while reducing environmental impact.
