TransPennine Express (TPE) has launched a new onboard dining service, TransPennine Kitchen: Coast to Coast, aimed at enhancing the travel experience for First-Class passengers between Liverpool and Newcastle. This initiative builds upon the success of its previous West Coast Kitchen, expanding access to premium meals prepared with locally sourced ingredients. By incorporating regional specialties, TPE aims to provide a more authentic and satisfying culinary experience while reinforcing its commitment to improving customer service.

The updated menu includes a variety of carefully crafted meals that highlight regional flavors. Among the standout dishes are the TransPennine bacon cheeseburger featuring Northumberland smoked cheese, a hearty Steak & Newcastle Brown Ale pie, and a hog roast sausage roll prepared by The Original Baker in Malton. Additionally, travelers can opt for a cheeseboard featuring Harrogate Blue and Northumberland Nettle or a Harissa vegetable stew, ensuring options for different dietary preferences.

For passengers, the introduction of this expanded menu means greater convenience and improved onboard comfort. The availability of locally inspired dishes allows travelers to experience regional flavors without needing to stop at restaurants or rely on standard travel fare. Breakfast offerings have also been upgraded, including a full English breakfast with Cumberland sausage and Bury black pudding, as well as a lighter option of fluffy pancakes topped with blueberry compote, catering to both traditional and modern tastes.

In addition to improved food options, TPE has significantly increased its customer service capacity. More than 20 new onboard hosts have been recruited, bringing the total to 60 staff members dedicated to providing a high-quality passenger experience. First-Class travelers benefit from dedicated staff, while Standard-Class passengers now enjoy more frequent trolley services, ensuring greater access to refreshments throughout the journey. These enhancements demonstrate a wider trend in rail travel aimed at prioritizing customer satisfaction and comfort.

This is clearly a move towards premium travel, rail operators will fight to compete on convenience but also performance. With onboard dining upgrades and staff investments, TPE improves the passenger journey on all rail routes making train travel a more attractive way to travel for business or pleasure. With increasing competition in the travel industry, these initiatives drive new standards for comfort and quality of rail.
