The Grand Puy ski resort, located in a picturesque French alpine area, is ceasing operations due to problems caused by global warming. Rising temperatures and a lack of snow have led to a significant decrease in the number of tourists. As a result, the local residents decided to close the resort, and the ski lifts will stop operating on November 1.

The local authorities in Seyne-les-Alpes have decided to shift their focus towards developing eco-friendly tourism. The plans include the creation of biking routes, fishing areas, and hiking trails that will be accessible year-round. This transition is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable tourism in the face of climate challenges.

For travelers, the region still offers plenty of options for outdoor activities despite the closure of the ski slopes. The nearby Pra-Loup resort remains a popular destination for winter sports, including skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, Seyne-les-Alpes boasts many historical landmarks, such as Fort de Seyne, where visitors can combine cultural excursions with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

Tourists visiting the region during the summer can enjoy alternative options for active recreation. For example, mountain biking trails allow visitors to experience the beauty of nature with minimal environmental impact. Hiking routes, such as those in the Ubaye Valley, provide excellent opportunities for eco-tourism and exploration of pristine landscapes.

The closure of resorts like Grand Puy highlights the growing impact of climate change on the tourism industry. Many small and mid-sized resorts are struggling to survive in a warming climate, where snow coverage becomes increasingly unpredictable. This forces ski resorts to either seek new directions or shut down entirely.

This situation emphasizes the need to promote eco-friendly tourism. For those looking to visit alpine regions, it is worth choosing more sustainable forms of recreation, such as hiking or biking tours. These types of tourism not only attract visitors but also contribute to the preservation of the environment.
