Sentosa Island, Singapore, has temporarily closed its beaches due to an oil spill resulting from a port collision. The incident occurred on Friday at the Pasir Panjang terminal, leading to immediate clean-up efforts to restore the area and ensure tourist safety.

The collision involved a Netherlands-flagged dredger and a stationary Singapore-flagged bunker vessel, causing significant oil contamination in the nearby waters. The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore has launched extensive operations to mitigate environmental damage and clean up the affected areas.

Three popular beaches on Sentosa—Tanjong, Palawan, and Siloso—are currently closed to the public. Authorities have placed warning signs along the beaches, advising visitors to stay out of the water as crews work to eliminate visible oil residue. The MPA has reported sightings of oil patches and light sheens near the terminal and beaches, emphasizing the urgency of their efforts.

Sentosa Island is a major tourist attraction in Singapore, known for its casino, Southeast Asia’s only Universal Studios theme park, and luxury residences. The beach closures disrupt leisure activities and tarnish the island’s reputation as a premier getaway spot.

Specialized response vessels are being deployed to apply dispersants and recover oil slicks from the water surface. Despite the ongoing clean-up, maritime traffic in the region remains unaffected, ensuring continued port access.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with environmental agencies to assess the spill's impact. They will provide regular updates on the clean-up progress and beach accessibility.

Sentosa Island, just minutes from Singapore's city center, remains a top destination known for its diverse attractions and natural beauty. The island offers a blend of relaxation and excitement with its pristine beaches, vibrant nightlife, luxury resorts, and fine dining options, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
