Finnsnes, one of the main gateways to Senja in Northern Norway, is due to add a new Scandic-branded hotel in summer 2028. The property will serve both holidaymakers heading into the Arctic landscape and business visitors using the coastal town. It adds a larger, more predictable hotel option in an area where demand often follows nature seasons and coastal travel patterns.

What Visitors Should Know Before Planning Senja

  • Location: Finnsnes, Northern Norway, near Senja.
  • Opening: planned for summer 2028.
  • Hotel: Scandic-branded franchise property.
  • Operator: Norlandia Hotel Group.
  • Size: 154 rooms, restaurant and meeting facilities.
  • Access: Finnsnes is a Hurtigruten coastal route stop.
  • Sustainability: Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification is planned.
"Finnsnes and Senja have strong potential within the hotel and tourism industry. The new hotel will become a landmark building in Finnsnes and is expected to attract many guests. Scandic’s strong brand, combined with the owners’ high level of commitment, provides a solid recipe for a successful hotel project."
Morten A. Kahrs, CEO of Norlandia Hotel Group

The 154-room hotel will include a restaurant and meeting spaces, giving Finnsnes a larger base for holidays, work trips and Hurtigruten stopovers. It will be operated by Norlandia under the Scandic brand, so guests should get familiar booking options and access to Scandic Friends loyalty benefits. The planned Nordic Swan Ecolabel may also interest visitors looking for lower-impact stays in Northern Norway.

The location should make Senja easier for visitors who want dramatic scenery without moving accommodation every night. Finnsnes puts guests close to fjords, steep mountains, beaches, forested hills and wildlife areas, while Senja itself is known for hiking, the midnight sun and Northern Lights. The town’s Hurtigruten stop also helps travellers combine the hotel with a wider coastal Norway route.

A larger hotel will make Finnsnes a more practical base for Senja trips, especially in busy summer and Northern Lights seasons, when rooms can be harder to secure. It gives visitors a recognised hotel option near the island, with restaurant facilities and space for work trips too. Senja will still need planning, so transport, car hire and coastal-route timings are worth checking early.
