Friendly Reminder: Ryanair’s Bag Drop Closes Earlier From 10 November

Ryanair passengers with checked bags face an earlier airport deadline from Tuesday, 10 November 2026. Bag-drop and airport check-in desks across its network will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, rather than 40. That gives passengers 20 fewer minutes to hand over luggage. Late arrivals may be unable to check their bags and risk missing their flight, even with a boarding pass.
Ryanair says roughly 20% of its passengers check a bag. It argues that closing desks earlier will leave them more time for security and passport control, particularly when queues are long. The other 80%, who travel without hold luggage, are unaffected by the bag-drop change. However, some non-EU travellers must complete document verification in the app or at a desk before security.
Ryanair’s New Airport Deadlines
- Starts: 10 November 2026, at all Ryanair airports.
- Bag drop: Closes 60 minutes before scheduled departure.
- Airport check-in: Same 60-minute limit.
- Online check-in: Still closes two hours before departure.
- Arrival: Ryanair recommends reaching the desk at least two hours early.
- Boarding gate: Closes 30 minutes before departure.
- Fees: No new charge; existing airport check-in fee is £55 or €55.
For a 10:00 departure, the final bag-drop cut-off is 09:00, not 09:20. Reaching the terminal at 09:00 is therefore too late to rely on handing over a suitcase. Look up your flight’s terminal and Ryanair desk on the departure airport's website or information screens; these vary by airport. Self-service bag-tag kiosks, where available, do not extend the deadline.
The new rule matters even if passengers complete online check-in well in advance: a boarding pass does not keep the bag-drop desk open. Ryanair's conditions warn that missing airport check-in can mean denied boarding without a refund. Check any document-verification instructions in the app too, especially if travelling on a non-EU passport. Leave enough time for the desk, security and the journey to the gate.
