Newcastle Airport Expands Winter Flights Across Europe

Newcastle Airport is promising its biggest winter flight programme yet, with more ways to reach European Christmas markets, ski resorts and warmer destinations without changing planes. One unusual addition is Lisbon: easyJet is keeping the Portuguese capital on its Newcastle timetable through winter for the first time. Several new links also take off this season, although the airport's announcement does not mean every destination is a brand-new route.
Newcastle’s New and Extended Winter Routes
- Newcastle–Lisbon: easyJet; launched 22 June; extended through winter; usually twice weekly.
- Newcastle–Barcelona: easyJet; 25 October; Fridays and Sundays; winter.
- Newcastle–Hurghada: easyJet; 27 October; Tuesdays and Saturdays; winter.
- Newcastle–Copenhagen: easyJet; 5 November; Thursdays and Sundays; winter.
- Newcastle–Berlin: easyJet; 20 November; Mondays and Fridays; winter.
- Newcastle–Rovaniemi: easyJet; 25 November; Wednesdays and Sundays; winter.
Other winter choices include Kraków, Prague, Innsbruck and Grenoble, plus sunshine services to Alicante, the Canaries, Morocco and Egypt. These are different airlines' routes, not all easyJet launches. Newcastle also lists daily hub services via Heathrow, Dubai, Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin for connections beyond Europe. Check the published airline timetable before booking: flight days, fares and availability vary by date.
Newcastle departures put Copenhagen's waterfront and Christmas attractions within reach for short breaks, while Berlin adds markets and museums. Rovaniemi is the obvious choice for Santa Claus Village and excursions into Lapland; Reykjavik is a starting point for Icelandic winter landscapes and possible Northern Lights sightings, never a guarantee. Lisbon offers a different sort of break, with Alfama, Belém and train trips to Sintra.
A Newcastle departure to Rovaniemi removes a connection for a Lapland trip; Lisbon stays available after summer, too. Neither route runs daily, so a weekend return may require an extra night. And the airport's 300-plus destinations are reached via connections, not on 300 nonstop services. Check the return as carefully as the outbound and compare luggage charges before selecting a cheaper-looking fare.
