More Routes, One Ticket: What Qatar Airways and WestJet Are Offering
Qatar Airways and Canadian airline WestJet announced a reciprocal codeshare agreement on 26 October 2026. Ticket sales have already begun, with the first flights under the partnership scheduled for 2 November. The new agreement will make it easier for passengers to travel between Canada and Doha, with onward connections.
Which Routes Will Be Available?
- Doha - Toronto (YYZ): Direct Qatar Airways flights that will also carry WestJet's WS code.
- Doha - Montreal (YUL): Direct Qatar Airways flights that will also carry WestJet's WS code.
- Domestic routes within Canada: Qatar Airways will add its QR code to selected WestJet flights from Toronto and Montreal. The partnership covers 11 Canadian cities, including Toronto and Montreal. Through these two hubs, Qatar Airways passengers will be able to continue their journeys on WestJet flights to nine additional cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, St John's and Winnipeg.
For example, travellers from Calgary will be able to consider a route via Toronto to Doha, provided suitable connections are available under a single booking. The domestic flight will be operated by WestJet, while the international flight will be operated by Qatar Airways. However, the agreement does not involve launching new direct flights between Doha and other Canadian cities.
From 25 October, Qatar Airways also increased its number of weekly flights to Canada from 12 to 14. Flights between Doha and each of the two Canadian cities now operate daily.
One Ticket, Connections and Baggage
The main advantage of the codeshare agreement is the ability to book multiple flights under a single reservation. Passengers will benefit from coordinated connections and through-checked baggage, while WestJet Rewards members will be able to earn points across their entire eligible itinerary.
Passengers arriving from Doha in Toronto or Montreal and continuing on a domestic flight within Canada will need to go through Canadian border control. Their baggage may be transferred directly to their final destination, but in some cases they may need to collect and check it in again. It is best to confirm this when checking in for the first flight.
It is also worth checking which airline actually operates each flight. For example, the WS code flight might be operated by Qatar Airways, and the QR code flight might be operated by WestJet. *Operated by* means which airline is actually operating the flight you are booking.
According to Qatar Airways' rules, if a journey starts or ends in Canada, the baggage rules and fees applicable at the point of departure apply throughout the itinerary. The ticket will specify how much baggage passengers can take and whether any additional charges apply. The ticket will specify how much baggage passengers are allowed to take and if there are any extra charges.
WestJet also plans to include other international Qatar Airways destinations beyond Doha in the agreement. The specific routes and dates for this expansion have not yet been announced. No specific routes or dates have been announced for the expansion yet.
