After an extended suspension caused by record flooding in May 2024, TAP Air Portugal has officially resumed its direct flight connection between Lisbon and Porto Alegre. The first restored flight landed on April 1, marking the return of a key international route. This development follows months of repair work at Salgado Filho International Airport, which has now reopened and is once again receiving long-haul international traffic.

The airline has reintroduced three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, operated using modern A330-900neo aircraft. Departures from Lisbon are scheduled for the early afternoon, with passengers arriving in Porto Alegre the same evening. Return flights take off from Brazil later that night and arrive in Lisbon the following afternoon, offering a direct and efficient transatlantic travel option for both tourists and business travellers.

Reinvigorated air link takes European tourists straight to south Brazil culture and nature attractions without connecting flights. Porto Alegre is also famous for its European ports, diverse cuisine and lively arts district within its city itself. It is also one of the entry points to the Serra Gaúcha, culminating in towns like Gramado and Canela that have colonial architecture as well as seasonal festivals.

The rerouting also opens up more convenient travel roads within the wine region of Vale dos Vinhedos, as well as to the cliffs of Aparados da Serra National Park. The direct flight encourages short-term visits and more sustainable tourism by reducing the number of transfers needed to reach these less explored areas of Brazil. For travellers seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences, this route creates new possibilities.

For tourists and travel planners, the relaunch of TAP’s Porto Alegre service is more than just a return to normal—it’s a step toward easier and more diverse travel options in South America. With fewer barriers and more comfort, the route empowers visitors to experience the depth and beauty of southern Brazil with greater ease and flexibility.
