IndiGo will temporarily suspend its direct flights linking London Heathrow with Mumbai and Delhi, ending its current wide-body programme sooner than planned. The Indian carrier blamed geopolitical tensions, longer routings caused by restricted airspace, higher fuel bills and currency pressure. The decision removes two of its lower-priced non-stop options between Britain and India and follows a wider retreat from leased long-haul aircraft.

The Heathrow suspension follows IndiGo’s decision to end its Manchester services on 31 August 2026, marking a wider pullback from UK long-haul routes operated with leased Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline says London services could return once its own Airbus A350-900s enter the fleet. Customers affected by the cancellations will be contacted directly and offered alternative travel arrangements or refunds.
British Airways and Air India will continue flying directly between Heathrow and both Delhi and Mumbai, so the cities will not disappear from London’s route map. Delhi remains a convenient gateway for the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and trips to Agra, while Mumbai provides access to the Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves and onward flights to Goa. The immediate loss is not the destination but a lower-priced choice on two heavily travelled routes.
