Iberia Adds Pets to Online Flight Bookings
More travellers now choose to fly with their pets, and airlines are gradually adapting their booking systems to reflect that shift. Iberia has introduced a new feature allowing passengers to add a pet travelling in the cabin directly during the online booking process. The option appears on the airline’s website when searching for flights, removing the need to contact a call centre or arrange payment at the airport.
Previously, travellers planning to fly with animals often had to confirm availability through customer service. Iberia’s new system allows passengers to check space for pets in real time while purchasing their ticket. The airline says this should reduce last-minute complications and make it easier for customers to organise travel arrangements with animals ahead of departure.
The rules for transporting animals in the cabin remain unchanged. Each passenger may travel with one carrier measuring no more than 45 cm by 35 cm by 25 cm, with a maximum combined weight of eight kilograms. Up to three animals of the same species, including dogs, cats, birds or turtles, may share one carrier. Iberia will assign suitable seating for passengers travelling with pets.
How Iberia’s new pet booking option works
- Available on flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum
- "Pet in cabin" option appears in the flight search tool
- Animals can be added to the booking at least 48 hours before departure
- Pets included in bookings allow customers to earn Avios
Some destinations and airports have restrictions on travelling with animals. If the pet selector is activated, routes where animals are not permitted will not appear in search results. Travellers must also ensure their pets’ documentation is valid, as checks continue at the airport during check-in before boarding is approved.
Travelling with pets has become more common during holidays and family visits, and airlines are adjusting their procedures to keep up. Simplifying the booking process removes one of the more frustrating parts of planning these journeys. Iberia’s new booking option reflects how airlines are adjusting their services for passengers travelling with pets.
