Fairmont’s "Special Happens" Brings Local Traditions into Modern Travel
On October 22, 2025, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts introduced a new travel experience line called "Special Happens..." during a launch event held in New York City. Expanding on the brand’s previous "Make Special Happen" campaign, the initiative presents twelve distinctive journeys to Fairmont destinations across the globe. Each trip aims to introduce guests to the local culture, cuisine, and nature. This shows that the hospitality industry is increasingly focusing on immersive, experience-driven travel.
The collection is organized into four themes: After Dark, In the Wild, Around the Table, and In the Spotlight. Each theme presents a distinct view of travel, focusing on wellness, adventure, gastronomy, and cultural discovery. Instead of emphasizing traditional luxury, the project centers on real, meaningful experiences that connect travelers with each destination. These experiences convey the genuine spirit and individuality of every destination.
Adventures After Dark
- The Traveler’s Reset ritual at Blu Xone Spa in Fairmont Mumbai helps guests unwind and rejuvenate during the evening hours.
- The Día de Muertos Dinner at Fairmont Mayakoba in Mexico honors traditional foods from the past.
- Fairmont Makati in Manila has a Moonlight Silent Cinema, where you can watch movies by the pool under the stars.
In the Wild
- Fairmont Orchid in Hawai‘i is the place to go for your dream adventure. You can go deep-sea fishing and eat local food.
- Helicopter Cocktail Odyssey at Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, where you can taste rum and fly in a private helicopter.
- Tropical Splendor Engagement Package at Fairmont El San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico, offering private scenic tours.
- Absolute Solitude Wellness at Fairmont Chateau Whistler, including a yoga retreat reached by seaplane.
Around the Table and In the Spotlight are about food and culture. Among the best offers are a collaboration between chefs at Fairmont Taghazout Bay, a dinner with a marriage proposal at Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, a "farm-to-table" lunch at Fairmont Singapore, and a festive dinner at Fairmont San Francisco. A hot air balloon flight in Marrakech, a private tour of Claude Nobs' chalet in Montreux, and an introduction to village life at Fairmont Jaipur in Rajasthan are just some of the cultural offerings.
This initiative reflects a wider shift in tourism, where large hotel groups introduce destination-specific programs to appeal to travelers seeking authenticity and context. The project gives guests the opportunity to see how people live in this region by organizing various activities for them during their stay in large hotels. This also means that modern hospitality is becoming more closely linked to cultural relevance than to traditional luxury.
