Sofia Gains New Direct Flights to Egypt and Tirana

Wizz Air has announced three new routes from Sofia, adding direct links to two Egyptian resort cities and the Albanian capital. Flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will begin on 5 July 2026, operating twice weekly during summer and three times weekly during winter. Services to Hurghada will start on 25 October with two weekly departures. A new connection to Tirana will also launch on 4 July.
The airline confirmed that tickets are already available through its website and mobile application. Introductory fares start from €24.99 for Tirana and €45.99 for the Egyptian routes. A short-term promotion offered fares from €19.99 across selected routes in the Bulgarian network for travel between early March and the end of May. The offer applied to multiple destinations served from Bulgaria.
The new routes are part of a wider expansion at Sofia Airport. Wizz Air recently added an eighth aircraft to its base in the Bulgarian capital, allowing the airline to introduce additional destinations and increase frequencies on several existing routes. With this expansion, the carrier now operates ten Airbus A321neo aircraft across its Bulgarian bases and holds a market share of about 33%.
New routes from Sofia
Sharm el-Sheikh – from 5 July 2026
- Thursdays and Sundays in summer
- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in winter
Hurghada – from 25 October 2026
- Tuesdays and Saturdays
Tirana – from 4 July 2026
- Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
The additions open more options for travellers planning holidays in different parts of the region. Sharm el-Sheikh offers access to the Red Sea coastline and the marine life of Ras Mohammed National Park, while Hurghada is known for its coral reefs and long sandy beaches. Tirana brings visitors closer to Albania’s café culture, colourful architecture and nearby Adriatic coastline.
Sofia has become an important starting point for holiday flights in the region. Direct services shorten journeys and remove the need to change planes at larger European airports. With several additional destinations now available, people flying out of Sofia can choose between more routes when arranging summer holidays or winter trips to warmer places.
