Entire Tube Line Closed This Weekend as Track Works Disrupt London Travel

London Underground passengers are facing a difficult weekend as Transport for London confirmed that the entire Hammersmith & City line will close on Saturday 7 March and Sunday 8 March. The shutdown is part of scheduled track works and will affect journeys across central and east London. Large numbers of commuters are expected to adjust their routes while engineers carry out maintenance along the line.
The disruption will not be limited to a single route. Sections of the Circle, District and Metropolitan lines will also see changes to normal services. Travellers moving between Hammersmith and Tower Hill, as well as Edgware Road and High Street Kensington on the Circle and District lines, will need alternative routes. Metropolitan line passengers between Baker Street and Aldgate will also face service changes.
Lines and sections affected this weekend
- Hammersmith & City line closed all weekend
- Circle and District lines disrupted between Hammersmith and Tower Hill
- Circle and District services affected between Edgware Road and High Street Kensington
- Metropolitan line changes between Baker Street and Aldgate
- Piccadilly line closed between Cockfosters and Uxbridge
Transport for London says the work forms part of wider upgrade plans across the network. Improvements include track maintenance, the introduction of new trains and upgraded CCTV on platforms. While parts of the Piccadilly line will also close between Cockfosters and Uxbridge, services will still operate between Acton Town and Heathrow, keeping the airport connected to the Underground system.
Other Underground, Overground and national rail services will still run across London during the closures. Areas such as Westminster, the West End, Camden and South Kensington can still be reached using different lines or rail routes. Passengers crossing the city may need to change lines and allow extra time, especially in central London. Weekend engineering works take place regularly as crews carry out track repairs and other maintenance across the network.
