In a recent U.S. District Court decision in Bangor, Alexander Michael Dominic MacDonald, a passenger from Chelmsford, England, was sentenced for causing a disturbance on a United Airlines flight, leading to an unscheduled landing at Bangor International Airport on March 1, 2024.

The court handed down a sentence of time served to MacDonald, who had been detained since the incident. Additionally, he is required to reimburse United Airlines $20,638 in restitution. MacDonald entered a guilty plea on March 22, following his disruptive behavior on the transatlantic flight from London to Newark.

During the flight, MacDonald became involved in an altercation with a travel companion and proceeded to disrupt the cabin environment. His actions escalated despite efforts by flight attendants to deescalate the situation, eventually leading to threats of damaging the aircraft. This resulted in MacDonald being restrained and the flight's diversion to Bangor.

The case was thoroughly investigated by the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Bangor Police Department, underlining the seriousness of threats made on board. This incident serves as a reminder of the strict measures airlines and law enforcement take to ensure passenger safety and the severe consequences of interfering with flight crew operations.
