BER Gets Its First Direct Flight to Florence
Berlin Brandenburg Airport has gained its first non-stop link to Florence, with Volotea launching a seasonal service between BER and the Tuscan capital. The route gives people in Berlin and Brandenburg a direct option for Florence city breaks and wider Tuscany trips, cutting out the need to connect through another airport. The airline is timing the service around autumn, Christmas and the start of the summer season.

Volotea is using an Airbus A319 with 156 seats, and the flight takes just under two hours. Tickets are available through Volotea, but the gaps between operating periods mean travellers should search by their exact dates rather than expect the route to run throughout winter. After landing, tram line T2 runs directly from Florence Airport via Santa Maria Novella station to Piazza San Marco, with the full airport-to-San Marco journey taking around 35 minutes.
The new link puts Florence’s historic centre within easy reach for a long weekend, including the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo area. The compact centre is well suited to exploring on foot, while Santa Maria Novella is also Florence’s main rail hub, with direct services to Pisa, Siena, Arezzo and Lucca for travellers continuing around Tuscany.
The route is useful, but its limited calendar matters as much as the launch itself. Volotea does not plan continuous winter service, so travellers outside the operating periods will need another option. Berlin also currently has non-stop flights to Pisa and Bologna, with Pisa providing another direct gateway into Tuscany when Florence flights do not fit the itinerary. When Florence flights do operate, they remove an extra connection and bring visitors straight into the Tuscan capital.
