airBaltic has introduced Economy MINI, a new entry-level fare for passengers travelling with only a personal item. The ticket became available on 6 May through the airline’s own sales channels: website, mobile app and call centre. It is designed as the lowest-priced option in the airline’s fare structure and sits below the existing Economy BASIC fare.

Economy MINI is aimed at passengers who travel light and need only the essentials. The fare includes one personal item measuring up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Additional services, including a cabin bag, checked baggage and meals, can be added separately during booking, allowing customers to choose only the extras they need for their journey.

The new fare expands airBaltic’s ticket structure to six fare types. The airline will continue offering its five existing options, including three Economy Class fares and two Business Class fares that include a cabin suitcase. airBaltic says Economy MINI reflects a model already common across European aviation, where the lowest fare covers the basics and extras are selected separately.

The fare could make short trips easier to price for passengers travelling across airBaltic’s network of 80 destinations in Europe and beyond. It may suit weekend breaks, short business trips or quick visits where a small personal item is enough. Cities across the Baltic region and other European routes become more practical for travellers who want to keep costs low and luggage minimal.

The new option gives passengers more control, but it also puts more responsibility on them before booking. Anyone choosing Economy MINI needs to check baggage size carefully and decide whether extras are really needed. Used well, it can be a sensible fare for light travel; used carelessly, it can turn into a cheap ticket with add-ons doing the expensive bit.
