After a 25-year hiatus, Air India is resuming nonstop flights from Delhi to Zurich, Switzerland, using its Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline expects strong demand for both business and leisure travel on this route, which expands its presence in mainland Europe. This development was confirmed by India's news agency, Press Trust of India.

A New Summer Route

Starting June 16, 2024, Air India will offer direct flights from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Zurich Airport (ZRH). The Boeing 787 aircraft, featuring both economy and business class, will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This new route adds to the airline's existing European connections, which include Amsterdam, Milan, Frankfurt, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Paris.

Catering to Strong Demand

Air India's CEO, Campbell Wilson, highlighted the strong demand for this route, stating that with over 250 Swiss companies operating in India and many Indian companies in Switzerland, these flights cater to significant business and leisure travel needs. The Indian diaspora in Switzerland, numbering around 18,000, further underscores the potential of this route.

Air India's Fleet and Expansion

Air India has a robust fleet of 140 aircraft and offers nonstop flights to over 40 destinations worldwide. The airline is part of alliance partnerships that connect it to over 710 destinations globally. The fleet includes 53 Airbus A320s, 27 Boeing 777s, 27 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, and more. The airline is modernizing its fleet, with a recent order for 470 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
