Liverpool Lime Street to Close for One Day in November
Liverpool Lime Street will close to overground train services on Sunday 8 November while Network Rail carries out maintenance near Mossley Hill. The work will shut a key approach into the station and affect Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern and TransPennine Express. Station facilities will remain open, but passengers will need alternative trains or replacement buses.

Avanti West Coast trains will run to an amended timetable and divert via Earlestown. East Midlands Railway will run no trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield, with passengers advised to use other operators. London Northwestern Railway services will start or terminate at Liverpool South Parkway, where tickets are accepted at no extra cost on alternative services to Liverpool Lime Street.
Northern trains will run between Hunts Cross and Manchester Oxford Road, with replacement buses linking Hunts Cross and Liverpool Lime Street. TransPennine Express services between Liverpool and Cleethorpes will start or terminate at Warrington Central, with buses covering the Liverpool section. Network Rail says the city centre remains accessible by replacement bus or Merseyrail, with staff available at Lime Street.
Passengers making connections should check the full itinerary rather than only the first train, as the closure may add an extra interchange or bus leg. Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway journeys may also face separate engineering work between Stafford and Crewe. Anyone taking a bicycle should note that non-folding bikes are not permitted on rail replacement buses, while folded bikes depend on available space.
