A New Yacht Hotel Is Coming to London
London’s Royal Victoria Dock is due to keep its floating hotel, but in a much larger form. Sunborn is replacing its current yacht hotel near ExCeL London with a newly built vessel designed for the same waterfront location. The project gives the Docklands area a refreshed hotel option for visitors attending events, staying near the water or using east London as a base.
Key Details for the New Sunborn London
- Location: Royal Victoria Dock, beside ExCeL London.
- Operator: Sunborn International.
- Planned opening: 2026.
- Size: 134 metres long.
- Rooms: 225 across six hotel floors.
- Facilities: rooftop bar, spa, event spaces and two-level lobby bar.
- Dining: à la carte restaurant with outdoor terraces.
- Build: constructed offsite, then brought to London.
The new hotel will be larger than the current Sunborn London, which has operated at Royal Docks for years. Sunborn says the replacement vessel will include more rooms, expanded leisure areas and public-facing venues. The company also describes the project as low carbon, using energy-efficient materials, smart glazing, insulation and heat-exchange systems to reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy.
For visitors, the location is the main reason the hotel matters. Royal Victoria Dock puts guests close to ExCeL London, the waterfront, the IFS Cloud Cable Car, Canary Wharf views and transport links into central London. It could suit event visitors who do not want to stay in a standard airport-style hotel after a full day at the exhibition centre.
The new yacht hotel will not sail, so guests are booking a fixed dockside stay rather than a cruise. That distinction matters when comparing prices and expectations. Its strongest use is likely to be short London stays around ExCeL events, Docklands weekends or east London work trips, with the water setting adding something different without changing the basic hotel checklist.
