Loganair has issued a weather warning for strong winds expected to affect flights to and from Sumburgh on 24–25 March 2026. The airline stated that services are currently scheduled to operate as planned, but disruption remains possible due to forecast conditions in the Shetland area. Standby aircraft and crews are being prepared to minimise delays and help restore services as soon as weather conditions allow safe operations.

Passengers booked on affected flights are being given the option to change their travel dates without paying a change fee or fare difference. Bookings can be moved to an alternative Loganair service up to 14 days before or after the original departure date, subject to seat availability. The airline confirmed that refunds will only be offered if a flight is officially cancelled, not for services that continue to operate.

Flexible options during the weather alert

Travellers can adjust plans without additional costs:

  • change to another Loganair flight within 14 days
  • no change fee or fare difference charged
  • seats available on a first-come basis
  • rebooking possible through Manage My Booking
  • passengers already checked in must cancel check-in first

Loganair noted that its disruption policy applies only to its own flights and does not cover onward connections with other airlines. Customers are advised to monitor updates and allow extra time in case weather conditions affect schedules. The airline also warned that call centre waiting times may be longer than usual because of increased demand for assistance during the disruption period.

Sumburgh Airport provides access to Shetland’s coastal landscapes, wildlife areas and historic sites, including archaeological locations and walking routes overlooking the North Sea. Flights are still expected to run, even if delays occur, helping people travel between the Shetland Islands and mainland Scotland. The option to change dates gives more choice when organising short trips, visiting relatives or planning work journeys connected with the region.
