Renting an apartment will be difficult as Turkey changes the rules for tourists
The Turkish parliament has introduced a bill that includes rules for renting housing for tourist purposes. The rules also apply to renting through the Airbnb app.
It states that there are currently about 30 thousand houses in Turkey that are rented for tourist purposes. The rental system is changing, emlakkulisi reports.
When drafting the bill, the examples of Spain, Italy, France, and the United States were considered.
The new provisions of the bill include the following rules:
1. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will issue a permit to rent housing for tourist purposes for up to 100 days.
2. Documentation of housing and accounting of rental income is required.
3. Those who rent a house for tourist purposes without a license will be fined 100 thousand liras. They will also be given 15 days to obtain a permit. At the same time, if the permit is not obtained within this period, the violators will be fined 15 thousand lira and will be given a new term.
4. Those who will continue rental activities will be fined 1 million lira.
5. According to the draft law, in order to get a positive response, owners must have permission from neighbors and ensure the availability of a fire exit.
6. According to the new rules, apartment owners must pass information about violators to law enforcement agencies. This also applies to hostels and hotels.
The law must now be approved by the parliament. If it is approved, the rules will change as early as January 2024.
