Lufthansa has introduced a stopover option at its Munich hub, allowing passengers on selected long-haul routes to extend their journey with a stay in the city. The programme is currently available on flights connecting Singapore and the United States, where travellers can add time in Munich instead of making a standard transfer.
The stopover can be set for any duration between 24 hours and seven days and is selected during the booking process on the airline’s website. It can be added to either the outbound or return leg of a journey. The option is open across all travel classes, and depending on the route combination, an additional charge may apply.

The stopover opens up time to explore Munich beyond the airport. Visitors can spend a few days in the city, with access to its historic centre, museums and nearby areas such as the Bavarian countryside. Places like Marienplatz, the English Garden and Nymphenburg Palace can be included in a short stay, instead of a brief connection before continuing the journey.
This approach changes how long-haul journeys can be arranged. A transfer can now double as a short stay without booking a separate trip. For those already flying on these routes, it adds a practical way to include another destination along the way, without adjusting the overall structure of the journey too much.
