Horror films about travelling that make your blood run cold: the most famous films
Travel horror films are classics of the genre. Really creepy things can happen to drivers and passengers on the road, and directors have successfully shown this in their films.
Movieweb has prepared a selection of very scary travel horror films. After watching it, you will hardly want to go on a road trip yourself anytime soon.
"Road Games"
The film is set on the roads of the Australian outback. American truck driver Pat Quade is driving through South Australia and suspects that the driver of a green van may be killing young women on his way. Convinced that he is witnessing the actions of a serial killer, Pat embarks on a quest to stop the driver, which leads to a cat-and-mouse game between the two. While seasoned horror fans may not find this film scary, the concept of being grabbed and killed while travelling down the road is quite terrifying.
"Race with the Devil"
This 70's action and horror film starring Peter Fonda and Warren Oates is about two couples who are on a road trip together in an RV while travelling from Texas to Colorado. While camping in Texas, both couples witness a horrific satanic ritual that ends in murder. The Satanists set out to persecute the four friends, and the cult members terrorise them.
"Final Destination"
The film that scared the whole generation of millennials. Tanning salons, roller coasters, laser eye surgery and elevators are just some of the things this franchise has scared people with for years.
In "Final Destination 2", Kimberly Corman (AJ Cook) goes to Daytona Beach with her friends for spring break. This part features some of the most horrific deaths, including the infamous truck with the woods scene, as well as many explosions and vehicle malfunctions. It's definitely not a film anyone would want to watch right before a trip.
"Wrong Turn"
Two groups of people on two separate journeys get stuck in the woods of West Virginia and run into each other on a quiet road. As they go deeper into the woods, they see something that makes their blood run cold.
This is a slasher film that is very loosely based on the alleged true story of a Scottish cannibal named Sonia Bean. After the two groups join forces, they realise that they have fallen into the hands of brutal cannibals.
"Children of the Corn"
Based on the book Children of the Corn by the master of literary horror genres Stephen King. Vicki and Bert Peter Horton are a young couple on their way to Seattle, passing through the small town of Gatlin, Nebraska, and accidentally hit a child with their car. They seek help to report the accident, but discover that the town has been abandoned for over three years. It is now run by a cult of religious children who believe that anyone over the age of 18 must die. Led by a preacher boy, Isaac, the children worship a corn god they call the One Who Walks Behind the Rows.
