New Route from Seattle Offers Quicker Access to Japan’s Culture and Nature

Beginning May 12, 2025, Alaska Airlines now operates daily nonstop flights from Seattle-Tacoma International to Narita International in Tokyo. The new route, a collaboration with Hawaiian Airlines utilizing Airbus A330 aircraft, offers a nonstop option that skips layovers at other U.S. airports, making travel faster for passengers. This new service offers a faster and more convenient option for travelers, especially between the U.S. and Japan.
Flying from Seattle to Tokyo is faster than from other West Coast cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco, thanks to how close Seattle is to Japan. Travelers, whether on business or vacation, can enjoy a quicker, more straightforward journey with this direct route. With fewer layovers and direct access, passengers can now more easily plan their trips to Japan, whether for work or pleasure.
This is a monumental step for our hometown carrier, Alaska Airlines, and a reflection of the commitment of this entire region to international travel and trade. SEA’s position as a global hub is a boon to the Pacific Northwest and provides more choices and opportunities for business and leisure travelers.
Travelers arriving in Tokyo will have access to notable landmarks, such as the historic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, one of the oldest and most significant Buddhist temples in Japan. Shibuya Crossing, the world's busiest pedestrian intersection, offers an iconic urban experience. While Tokyo pulses with energy, the Meiji Shrine offers a quiet, peaceful refuge right in its heart. For shopping enthusiasts, the fashionable districts of Harajuku and Omotesando are just a short journey away, offering unique fashion and culture.
In addition to Tokyo, Narita International Airport serves as a gateway to other stunning destinations across Japan. A quick flight or train ride will take you to Kyoto, where you can discover ancient temples, peaceful gardens, and traditional tea houses that showcase Japan's deep cultural roots. For those who love the outdoors, Mount Fuji provides stunning views and excellent hiking, while the northern island of Hokkaido is famous for its top-tier ski resorts and relaxing hot springs.

The launch of this nonstop flight comes in response to growing demand for direct travel between Seattle and Tokyo. In 2024, over 400 passengers flew daily between the two cities, highlighting the need for more direct flight options. The new route is designed to make travel between the U.S. and Japan easier and more convenient, helping meet growing demand while also encouraging tourism and business connections.
