Gatwick Strike Threatens Holiday Flights
Travel plans for the Easter weekend could be put in chaos at Gatwick Airport as over 100 Red Handling ground operations workers prepare to strike. The industrial action will run from Friday, 18 April to Tuesday, 22 April, affecting essential services like baggage handling and check-in. Around 50 flights a day are handled by the staff for airlines such as Norwegian, TAP, Delta and Air Peace meaning widespread delays/cancellations during one of the busiest travel periods.
The strike has occurred due to issues related to unpaid pensions, unpaid salaries & working conditions. The workers allege that pension contributions are absent or wrongly done and wages have been paid late several times.
