Friendly people and high prices: How Germans see the UK
Residents of continental Europe sometimes mistakenly imagine the UK to be crowded with queues and high prices. They are also frightened by its left-hand traffic on the roads. However, tourists who have visited the UK after Brexit usually refute the myths and share their positive impressions.
According to the Telegraph, travellers from Germany are mostly satisfied with their vacation in the UK. The only widespread problem Europeans mention is high accommodation prices, but some of them said that it is possible to find alternative accommodation for a reasonable price.
Marcel from Cologne, Germany, said he was prepared for long lines when he travelled to Wales, but did not encounter them.
"I knew from previous visits that London was expensive, but the cost of overnight stays during the peak season this year made it almost impossible to find decent accommodation, even for those with a decent travel budget. That said, I was very happy to see that some of London's best pubs like Marquis Cornwallis, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese and The Old Bell Tavern are doing brisk business despite the cost of living crisis," he said.
Daniel from Berlin was gushing with compliments about the cool, crisp British weather, which was a "breath of fresh air" for him after the European heat. He also enjoyed the cultural program in London.
Kathrin Jahn from Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia also boasted about catching the sunny days in the UK in the summer. "Everyone was very nice and I can't remember a single situation where I didn't feel safe. I also found some unique places to stay," she said.
The country's advantages also include hearty and varied offerings in dining establishments. Connoisseurs of any cuisine can find a wide selection of their favorite dishes. Food prices have remained affordable for travellers, unlike housing prices.
Finally, Bruna, who recently visited Edinburgh, Glasgow, St. Andrews, Inverness, the Isle of Skye and the Isle of Bute, shared her observation that there are many more homeless people on the streets than a few years ago.
