China has canceled visas for Georgian citizens
China has decided to introduce a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze at a government meeting, local media reported. Currently, Georgian citizens will be able to stay in China without a visa for 30 days.
"The People's Republic of China has decided to introduce a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens. Georgian citizens will be able to stay in China without a visa for 30 consecutive days. This is the most important decision that will make visiting China easier for our compatriots," Kobakhidze said.
Georgia and China established diplomatic relations on June 9, 1992. Since then, bilateral relations have gradually developed and have mainly focused on economic cooperation.
In 2017, Georgia and China signed a free trade agreement, which entered into force in January 2018. The agreement provides for the exemption of approximately 94% of Georgian products from duties in China.
China is one of Georgia's main trading partners. The foreign trade turnover with China amounted to $96.4 million in January 2024.
At the end of July 2023, Georgia and China announced the transition to a new level of bilateral relations - a strategic partnership. On September 12, Georgia introduced a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens.
As TravelWise reported earlier, China intends to allow tourists from 6 countries to travel without visas for up to 15 days.
