Canary Islands Get New Winter Flights
Air Transat will add Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to its winter 2026–2027 network, giving travellers a new route to the Canary Islands. The service will run weekly between December 2026 and April 2027, with Saturday departures from Montreal starting 12 December and Sunday departures from Toronto. Flights are already available for booking.
The airline says Las Palmas combines the Canary Islands’ mild winter climate with European culture, beaches and a strong food scene. The new route also supports Air Transat’s wider growth in Spain, where it will serve five destinations. Madrid, Málaga, Barcelona and Valencia will operate year-round, while Las Palmas joins the winter schedule.
New Winter Services
The winter 2026–2027 programme includes:
- Montreal to Las Palmas: weekly from 12 December to 4 April
- Toronto to Las Palmas: weekly from 13 December to 4 April
- Quebec City to Rio Hato: Sundays from 20 December to 25 April
- Valencia: weekly Friday flights through winter
The Las Palmas flights make Gran Canaria easier to reach for winter sun, beach stays and city breaks. Travellers can plan time around Las Canteras Beach, the old quarter of Vegueta, coastal walks, local markets and nearby resort areas. The Rio Hato route also improves access to Panama’s Pacific coast during the colder months in Canada.
The update gives Canadian travellers more warm-weather choices without relying only on familiar winter holiday spots. Spain’s year-round links add flexibility for city trips and longer stays, while Gran Canaria offers a different kind of island escape in winter. For those planning ahead, the main gain is simple: more direct options during the season when sunshine matters most.
