American Airlines has simplified the rules for transporting animals in the cabin
Pet owners using American Airlines services can breathe a sigh of relief. As of March 30, the airline has eased its policy on the transportation of animals in the cabin.
From now on, owners are allowed to take not only their pet, for which a $150 fee is charged, but also full-size hand luggage. According to the Independent, previously, pet owners could only take one small item that fit under the seat.
Larger bags, such as small suitcases, had to be checked in for an additional $35 fee. An alternative option was to transport the animal in the cargo hold.
The new American Airlines policy allows passengers to bring both a pet and regular carry-on luggage into the cabin.
An American Airlines spokeswoman confirmed that the rule change came into effect at the end of March. The reason for this gift for passengers with pets remains unknown, as decision makers were unavailable for comment during the Easter weekend.
Previously, passengers had to choose between a bag or an animal, which seemed unfair to many.
