The Beauty of El Puente de Dios

Chichen Itza is amazing. It is the largest of the Mayan cities in the Yucatan Peninsula and one of Mexico’s most visited tourist destinations. Here is one of my main highlights from the area around Chichen Itza that you should put on your itinerary.

El Puente de Dios

El Puente de Dios or The Bridge of God is located 3 km northwest of Tamasopo, a town in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, town. It offers one of the most unique waterfalls, combined with natural pool, that I’ve ever seen in my life. You need to go down quite a lot of stairs, probably around 300 stairs, in order to reach the natural pool and the waterfalls.

The natural pool is large, circular and almost 18 meters deep. The walls are covered with vegetation, and the water is a deep clear blue. Jumping from one of the sides of the waterfall into the natural deep pool underneath it was crazy, though it wasn’t that high. The blue cold water was really refreshing and there were also a lot of people just chilling in the pool after they jumped.

I saw some people diving there as well, though I wasn’t sure about the variety of fishes underwater. I saw some small fishes during my duck dive and there were a lot of big rocks, but nothing special really. Behind some of the waterfalls you can actually find a cave slash a room that you can reach by holdling your breath. The sensation of being underneath the curtain of the waterfall was fantastic.

If you are planning to visit Mexico in the future, don’t forget to put El Puente de Dios on your itinerary. As for me, I am still curious about the hidden beach at Marietas Islands. Really one of a kind. Hopefully I can check that unusual beach in the near future!
