ScotRail Boosts Late-Night Services to Ease Travel During Edinburgh Festivals

Starting from 1 August, ScotRail will introduce additional carriages and late-night train services throughout August to handle the higher passenger demand during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh International Festival. By boosting capacity on key routes, these changes help thousands of travelers get in and out of the city more easily during the cultural season.
Late-night train services include:
- Daily departures between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street at 00:03 and 00:33 via Falkirk High.
- Additional Friday and Saturday trains at 23:30 via Falkirk High and 00:12 via Bathgate.
- Late Friday trains to Glenrothes with Thornton at 23:59 and to Dundee at 23:56.
- A Sunday late service to North Berwick at 23:24.
- Special overnight trains from North Berwick to Edinburgh Waverley running from 1 to 10 August to support Fringe by the Sea attendees.
Held every August, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe presents a wide array of performances in comedy, theatre, dance, and music. Events take place across various venues and open-air public spaces throughout the city. Because the festival is open to all, artists of every level can take part, creating a diverse, wide-ranging, and continually evolving artistic and cultural programme.
The Edinburgh International Festival presents a selected programme of performances in classical music, opera, theatre, and dance. It is organised by a dedicated team and features artists and ensembles from around the world. Events are staged in established cultural venues, focusing on excellence, tradition, innovation, and international artistic standards.
These service enhancements highlight the importance of adapting transport infrastructure to meet the demands of major events. With these improvements, travelers will find it easier to catch trains, move around with less hassle, and make the most of festival season in Edinburgh. These improvements help both visitors and locals navigate the city more easily, particularly during the busy festival season.
