Holiday plans for 2027 are getting more personal, according to Booking’s latest travel predictions. Money is already causing friction between friends on group trips, while others are keen to try unusual experiences or choose a destination based on their mood. Even the traditional all-inclusive holiday is being questioned, with some respondents wanting to leave out food, drinks or activities they know they won’t use.

What the 2027 Travel Survey Reveals

  • Who travels: 56% have reconsidered companions over spending differences.
  • Surprises: 75% would like to do something completely different on their next holiday.
  • Mood: 83% would like to find holiday destinations that suit their mood.
  • Packages: 66% want to remove services they would not use.
  • Mystery: 65% said they'd be interested in exploring the paranormal while on holiday.
  • Flying: 90% would consider long-haul flights if guaranteed to arrive rested.
  • Scope: These figures refer to Asia-Pacific respondents.

Money is already causing problems on group holidays. In Asia-Pacific, 54% said different spending expectations had caused tension during a trip, while 68% of parents wanted a child-free holiday so they could spend more on themselves. For anyone organising a group break, that makes the budget conversation worth having before booking. Booking surveyed 28,230 people worldwide in July and August 2026; these figures describe attitudes, not future bookings.

There are ways to try a less predictable break without flying far. Reims, Bratislava and Pescara appear on Booking’s separate 2027 trending-destinations list. Reims suits a Champagne-cellar visit, Bratislava is about an hour by train from Vienna, and Pescara has beaches and a seafront cycling route. These are existing options, not new packages; book tours separately and check seasonal openings before travelling.

The clearest takeaway is to check whether a holiday fits the people paying for it. Agree a per-person ceiling before collecting deposits, decide which meals and activities are optional, and read cancellation terms in case someone withdraws. If a package promises flexibility, compare its full price with booking the essentials separately. Mood-based travel searches might appeal to some, but you don't have to hand over health information or smartwatch data to a travel company.
