This week, WestJet inaugurated its first nonstop flight from Calgary to Reykjavik, Iceland, marking a significant expansion of its transatlantic services. The new route, operated with a Boeing 737 MAX, highlights WestJet’s commitment to increasing international connectivity from its Calgary hub.

On May 15, WestJet flight WS38 departed from Calgary International Airport at 20:03, landing at Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport after a 6-hour and 17-minute flight. This marks WestJet's seventh transatlantic connection from Calgary this summer.

The new route to Reykjavik, operated four times weekly until October 13, 2024, is part of WestJet’s broader strategy to position Calgary as a key gateway for international travel. Angela Avery, WestJet’s Executive Vice President, emphasized Iceland’s unique appeal and the airline’s role in providing affordable travel options. This expansion is expected to attract Canadian travelers seeking new destinations and further establish Calgary as a major hub.

WestJet's all-Boeing fleet, including 36 737 MAX 8s, ensures that passengers enjoy a modern and efficient travel experience. The aircraft servicing the Reykjavik route features a two-class configuration, offering both premium and economy seating with modern amenities.

Additionally, WestJet’s codeshare agreement with Icelandair enhances the travel experience by allowing passengers to book seamless connections to over 30 European destinations and more within Iceland and Greenland. This agreement simplifies the travel process with a single check-in and baggage transfer, making international travel more convenient for passengers.

Overall, the new Calgary-Reykjavik route signifies an important milestone for WestJet and Calgary International Airport, offering new travel opportunities and reinforcing the city’s connectivity on a global scale.
