To celebrate two decades in Bulgaria, Wizz Air will run an extensive scavenger hunt throughout Sofia on September 19, 2025. Participants can follow a series of clues posted on the airline’s official Instagram account to find four secret locations across the capital. The first person to reach each site and provide the correct password will receive two round-trip tickets to destinations served by the airline, combining navigation and problem-solving.

Since starting flights from Bulgaria in 2005, Wizz Air has carried over 31 million passengers and operates nine aircraft based in Sofia and Varna, maintaining 55 active routes across Europe. The scavenger hunt is part of the anniversary activities planned to engage the public and highlight the airline’s ongoing presence in the Bulgarian market. It also demonstrates the integration of interactive events into broader operational milestones for aviation companies.

“These are achievements we are proud of and which would not have been possible without the trust of our passengers. That’s why we chose to celebrate our anniversary in a different and exciting way – with the interactive ‘Scavenger Hunt’ game that gives people the chance to have fun and win trips to some of our most exciting destinations. I wish all participants the best of luck and I look forward to personally awarding the winners on Friday at the four secret locations in Sofia."
Dayana Georgieva, Wizz Air ambassador in Bulgaria and cabin crew at the airline

Participants in the scavenger hunt will need to explore different parts of Sofia while following structured clues and reaching designated locations at specific times. At each site, they must locate representatives to obtain the correct password phrase. This structured approach helps participants make the most of their time while carefully planning their activities. This activity offers a city-wide challenge, encouraging participants to explore Sofia actively while gaining insight into its urban environment in an interactive and immersive way.

Beyond the scavenger hunt, the event illustrates a wider trend in travel, where airlines and organizations create interactive public experiences to engage participants. Announcements regarding participation rules, logistical details, and additional events will be published on Wizz Air's official social media pages and website. This structure allows both locals and visitors to access information, plan their participation, and take part in the event in a coordinated manner.

Treasure hunts give travelers the opportunity to combine exploring the city with organized activities, while testing their problem-solving and time management skills. This highlights how city-wide activities can provide meaningful experiences that go beyond traditional tourism. For participants, it is an opportunity to discover Sofia in a new way, take part in organized public events, and reflect on how local communities and transport networks are connected to broader travel opportunities
