Saaremaa Gets an Easier Summer Flight Link
Finnair will launch flights on the Helsinki–Kuressaare route on 8 June, making Estonia’s largest island easier to reach for summer trips. Kuressaare is the main town on Saaremaa, known for its slower pace, sea air and compact centre. The new service gives visitors a simpler way to reach the island without building the whole journey around longer ground connections.
Kuressaare is easy to explore on foot, with many of its main sights close together. Lossi Street leads towards Kuressaare Castle, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in the Baltics. The town also has spa hotels, a harbour, calm streets and a beach near the centre, making it practical for short breaks as well as longer stays.
Beyond Kuressaare, Saaremaa is better explored by car. Renting one makes it easier to reach the island’s coast, villages, lighthouses and countryside without depending on limited local transport. Visitors can plan day trips to Sõrve Lighthouse, Kiipsaare Lighthouse, Kaali Crater, Angla Windmills and quieter beaches around the island.
What becomes easier to reach
The new flight opens up more of Saaremaa’s summer appeal, including:
- Kuressaare Castle and castle park
- Local spa hotels and beach walks
- Kaali meteorite crater
- Sõrve and Kiipsaare lighthouses
- Angla Windmills and rural villages
- Summer events such as Saaremaa Opera Festival and I Land Sound
The route works best for travellers who want a calm island break rather than a packed city schedule. It gives easier access to spa stays, local food, Baltic beaches, nature routes and festival weekends. Anyone planning to see more than Kuressaare should check car rental options early, especially during the busier summer event season.
