Ryanair Adds Shannon–Milan Flights for Summer 2027
Travellers in western Ireland will gain a nonstop route to northern Italy when Ryanair starts flying between Shannon and Milan Bergamo in spring 2027. The new service will make Milan, Bergamo and the Italian lakes easier to reach without a connecting flight or a journey to another Irish airport. The limited weekly schedule, however, may shape holiday plans.

The route adds a fourth Italian destination to Shannon’s Ryanair network, alongside Rome, Naples and Turin. It gives people in western Ireland a direct northern Italy option without driving to a larger airport first. Milan Bergamo Airport is outside Milan itself, though. Coaches to Milano Centrale take around 50–60 minutes, depending on traffic, with a separate ticket needed for the transfer.
Bergamo is worth considering as a destination rather than just an airport. Its walled Città Alta has historic squares, narrow streets and a funicular. Local airport buses run to Bergamo railway station, with onward trains to Milan taking about 48 minutes. Lake Como and Lake Garda are possibilities for longer stays, although getting there involves additional ground travel that should be checked before booking accommodation.
The Wednesday and Sunday flight pattern could suit a three-night Sunday break or four nights departing Wednesday, depending on actual flight times. It is less flexible if you need to leave or return on another day. Compare the full cost with alternatives through other Irish airports, including transfers and luggage. Ryanair’s cheapest fare covers one small bag that fits under the seat. Anything larger costs more.
