Ryanair Adds Mallorca and Calabria Flights From Kassel
Ryanair will start flying from Kassel Airport for the first time in 2027, with two direct routes to Spain and southern Italy. The announcement gives people in North Hesse another way to reach the Mediterranean without first travelling to a larger airport. But these are not daily services, so the flight days may determine whether they suit a short break or a longer holiday.

Ryanair will no longer fly between Paderborn/Lippstadt and Palma in summer 2027, though Eurowings lists several daily flights on the route. That gives Mallorca-bound passengers another option if Kassel's twice-weekly schedule does not work. A Wednesday–Saturday trip via Kassel fits three nights on Mallorca; Friday–Monday allows three nights in Calabria. Both new routes are already bookable on Ryanair's website, with fares varying by date.
Palma is a starting point for Mallorca's beaches, the city's old town and trips to Sóller or Valldemossa in the Tramuntana mountains. The airport has an A1 bus to central Palma. Lamezia Terme opens up Calabria's Tyrrhenian coast, including Tropea and Capo Vaticano; a shuttle connects the airport to Lamezia Terme Centrale railway station, where onward regional travel is possible.
Departing from Kassel may save northern Hesse residents a longer journey to another airport, although the limited weekly schedule could mean extra hotel nights. Bus 100 links Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe station with the terminal, so factor that connection into the total journey. Compare return times and the full fare before booking: Ryanair's basic ticket includes only a small under-seat bag, with larger luggage costing extra.
