Australians are now closer to Europe as Qantas launches a new nonstop service from Perth to Paris, marking its return to the City of Light for the first time in 20 years. This Boeing 787 Dreamliner service reduces travel time by approximately three hours, making it the longest nonstop flight to France from anywhere in the world.

Project Sunrise Moves Forward

The nonstop flights from Perth to Paris, London, and Rome are part of Qantas's broader Project Sunrise initiative, which aims to offer direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to global destinations like London and New York. This will eliminate the need for stopovers in Perth, Singapore, or Auckland for most Australians, especially those on the East Coast.

Qantas operates the outbound service as QF33, which originates in Sydney with a scheduled stopover in Perth. On July 12, QF33 departed Sydney at 14:41, arrived in Perth at 17:05, and continued to Paris on the same Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The flight took 16 hours and 27 minutes to cover 8,865 miles, landing at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) at 06:20 on Saturday. The return flight, QF34, departed Paris at 11:05 and arrived in Perth at 08:37 the next day.

The new route operates four times weekly during the peak northern summer season, reducing to three times weekly from mid-August. It adds 75,000 seats annually between Australia and Europe, aligning with the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson expressed excitement about the new service, noting high customer satisfaction with the airline’s direct long-haul routes. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, designed for long-haul comfort, feature 236 seats across business, premium economy, and economy classes. The aircraft offers reduced cabin pressure, higher humidity, larger windows, mood lighting, and spacious overhead lockers to enhance passenger comfort.

To celebrate the Paris route, Qantas introduced special amenities, including designer pajamas and amenity kits, and a menu curated by celebrity chef Neil Perry featuring French dishes. Passengers can also enjoy French movies like Amélie and Midnight in Paris on the in-flight entertainment system throughout July.

Qantas plans to maintain these nonstop European flights even after the launch of Project Sunrise. The airline’s extensive domestic network makes connecting to Perth convenient for travelers, adding to the anticipation for the arrival of the ultra-long-range Project Sunrise Airbus A350s in 2026.
