November Rail Works to Disrupt Train Services Across Rome
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) will do maintenance work on parts of Rome's rail system from November 4 to December 6, 2025. The €2.5 million project will replace switches and parts of the track near the Roma Tuscolana, Roma Casilina, Roma Ostiense, and Roma San Pietro stations. For travelers, this could mean that some of the busiest lines in the capital will have to change their schedules, take longer trips, and change their routes temporarily.
Train circulation will be altered on several days, affecting major commuter and regional routes. The works will impact services on the FL1 line to Fiumicino Airport, the FL3 to Viterbo, the FL4 routes to Albano Laziale and Velletri, the FL5 to Civitavecchia, and the Leonardo Express. People traveling to or from the airport or between central Rome and nearby towns should expect schedule changes and reduced train frequency during the maintenance period.
Passengers taking the Leonardo Express should anticipate potential delays or brief service interruptions, particularly during peak travel hours in the morning and evening. Those traveling between Ostiense and Tuscolana stations could experience short-term route adjustments or longer waits on platforms. Commuters relying on the FL lines each day to reach work might face crowded trains or adjustments in departure schedules. Therefore, it is recommended to check Trenitalia channels for updates before each trip.
Tourists planning day trips outside Rome should take extra care when organizing transport to destinations like Civitavecchia or Albano Laziale. On certain days, substitute bus services may replace train connections, increasing overall travel time. This can particularly affect weekend travel, as maintenance is often intensified on days with less traffic. Checking the schedule in advance will help you avoid missed connections or unnecessary detours.
The maintenance work will make things a little harder for both residents and visitors who are passing through the city. When making transfers, especially to Fiumicino Airport, passengers should expect a schedule that is less reliable and be ready for delays. With rail operations adjusted for several weeks, the coming month will demand extra flexibility from travelers using Rome’s train network for commuting or regional travel.
