Milan’s Passante railway is closed for planned maintenance until 30 August, bringing widespread changes to Trenord suburban and regional services. Trains are not serving the underground section between Milano Lancetti and Milano Porta Vittoria, while several routes have been diverted, shortened or suspended. Replacement buses and Milan’s urban transport network are covering some affected sections, but journey times and interchange points will vary.

How Milan Rail Services Are Changing

  • Lines affected: S1, S2, S5, S6, S7, S12 and S13
  • Closure period: 3–30 August 2026
  • Closed stations: Lancetti, Porta Garibaldi Sotterranea, Repubblica, Porta Venezia, Dateo and Porta Vittoria
  • Main alternatives: Diverted trains, replacement buses, S3, S8, S11 and Milan urban transport
  • Operator: Trenord
  • Full timetable: Available on the RFI website

S1 trains are running between Milano Bovisa and Lodi on an alternative route via Forlanini, Lambrate and Porta Garibaldi’s surface station. S2 and S12 services are suspended, while S5 runs only between Pioltello and Varese, with buses replacing the Treviglio–Pioltello section. S6 is cancelled between Rho and Pioltello or Treviglio, and S13 operates only between Rogoredo and Pavia.

Visitors can still reach central Milan attractions by switching to metro, tram and other suburban lines. Porta Venezia remains accessible by metro for the Indro Montanelli Gardens and Natural History Museum, while Duomo, Brera and the Navigli require different urban connections. Trips towards Monza, Lecco, Bergamo and Brescia remain possible, although some journeys involve replacement buses, altered terminals or additional changes.

Anyone travelling through Milan this month should check the amended timetable before leaving, even on a familiar route. Some trains are using surface stations instead of underground platforms, while others terminate early or do not run. Extra transfer time will be important for airport, intercity and event connections. Ticket and season-ticket rules for replacement journeys are explained through Trenord and ATM’s digital channels.
