Marrakech Video Arrest Warns Travellers
French-Algerian influencer Yass Naubelle was reportedly arrested at Marrakech Menara Airport on 13 June after posting a critical TikTok video about her Morocco holiday. The 30-year-old content creator, who founded the Naubelle skincare line, was stopped shortly before boarding a flight back to France. Reports say the video focused on road conditions in Marrakech and the behaviour of some traffic police.
Moroccan authorities allegedly acted under a national warrant after deeming the video defamatory towards Moroccan citizens and insulting towards security forces. Naubelle was placed in police custody while investigators examined the content and its motivation, according to reports. No formal charges or court date had been publicly confirmed at the time of the initial reporting, and the video has since been deleted.

Holidaymakers and creators should separate a genuine safety complaint from public allegations against officials or institutions while abroad. Before posting critical content:
- check local laws and travel advice
- avoid filming sensitive sites or officials
- keep receipts, screenshots and booking records
- raise urgent issues with the hotel, tour operator, embassy or official complaint channel
Marrakech remains one of Morocco’s busiest city-break destinations, with the medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa, souks, gardens, riads and day trips to the Atlas Mountains drawing European visitors. The case does not change access to those places, but it matters for people documenting trips online. A short reel about traffic, taxis, scams or officials can travel much further than expected.
The safer route is to post factual, calm updates and save serious accusations for formal complaints once legal advice is clear. Negative reviews about hotels, tours or transport are not the same as alleging misconduct by authorities. Anyone leaving Morocco after viral content should keep travel documents close, monitor airline messages and know how to contact their consulate if stopped.
