Mallorca Gets More Winter Flights
Eurowings is planning a larger winter operation in Mallorca from the 2026/27 schedule, as the airline and the Balearic Government look to spread tourism beyond summer. For the first time, the Lufthansa Group carrier plans to base six aircraft in Palma de Mallorca during winter. The airline says that is twice the number stationed there two years earlier, showing stronger year-round commitment to the island.
The agreement was discussed in Palma during a meeting between Balearic President Marga Prohens and Eurowings CEO Max Kownatzki. Both sides want steadier demand through autumn and winter, rather than a short summer rush. Eurowings also says it is examining a maintenance facility in Palma, which could create skilled year-round jobs and make support for its growing local fleet easier.
What Eurowings Plans in Palma
Capacity will grow around a few clear points. Eurowings says its Mallorca plan includes:
- six aircraft based in Palma in winter 2026/27;
- almost 1,000 local employees already;
- summer links with 26 airports;
- about 400 weekly summer flights;
- possible maintenance expansion in Palma.
The company also owns Wings Handling, which already supports its local ground operations on the island.
More winter flying would make Mallorca easier to plan outside the busiest beach months. Palma’s old town, the cathedral, Sóller, Deià and the Serra de Tramuntana are better suited to cooler weather than August heat. Cyclists, hikers and weekend visitors could also benefit if more seats stay available beyond summer, especially on trips built around food, villages, nature and quiet coastal towns.
Anyone considering Mallorca in winter should watch for the actual 2026/27 timetable before booking around the expansion. More based aircraft usually means better flight availability, but routes, days and fares still matter. Check airport choice, baggage rules and hotel cancellation terms before paying.
